Uhhh….Progression? My process involves a team now which allows me to focus on different aspects of creating. there’s a new artist I’m working with on cover art, there’s clothing I’m interested in doing, and my rollouts will start being more interactive. in terms of sound, I have more time to explore my network and work with people to bring ideas to life as well as connect artists from different areas that wouldn’t normally work together due to the relationships I have with each. it’s a whole process I get to explore and expand upon now. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/613f69fe92bbec38f4fc2a53/ec08f102-025b-42de-afea-507827c0a5e3/edited19A_0588.png Eliy Orcko - You worked with lo-fi producer SIM on HOOLIGAN. What did that songwriting process look like? Songwriting isn’t really a difficult thing for me. I hear something, I get an idea, and I start putting demos together. S I M listens to the demos makes some edits, we talk about where it’s at then send that to DESH at hush puppy records. once we have her feedback we restructure things and get back into it until we make something everyone is happy with. when I’m writing, I usually lock myself in a room or I “Go Dark” for a period of time, not engaging or posting on social media, and just kinda living my life. I’ve always been a very particular person, I like certain things and very specific people so I don’t surround myself with a lot of different artists or communities. if I’m in a creative mood 8 out of 10 times I’ll leave Ohio and go somewhere that piques my interest. Working full-time while launching a music career and also launching a new company is definitely not easy, but I am fortunate to have a full-time job that is 100% virtual. Working virtually allows me to set up my office in the room next to the music studio I’ve been creating, so I’m constantly surrounded by that creative mindset, which is super helpful for someone who is trying to write songs everyday. The company I work for prioritizes its employees having a work-life balance, which I have been able to perfect over the last few years. I'm super grateful to have a team that is supportive of my goals outside of the work that I do 9-5. Even though I do have a good work-life balance, I am definitely still grinding all the time — whether it be with new 813 Mgmt. initiatives or my personal music career. I’ve always been super passionate about music. I’ve been a singer for as long as I can remember and took piano lessons from ages five to 18. Music was always something that I wanted to take more seriously … but when I went to college to study accountancy, I lost the time and resources I had in high school to make music regularly. In 2021, I had just started a new position at the company I work for and had extra time on my hands — especially as the world started to open back up after COVID. A friend from college reached out to see if I wanted to play keys for his band, and I felt like it was the perfect opportunity to start taking music seriously again. The band, Who Saved Who, gave me insight into the local music scene that I had never seen before. I got experience playing at venues where I had gone throughout college to see some of my favorite artists perform, and I started to realize that my music career had the potential to take off just as those artists had … I just needed to put all of my creative and professional energy into making music. I saw artists I really admire, like Phoebe Bridgers, Jukebox The Ghost, Still Woozy — some of my favorite artists — perform at venues I was now getting to play at and that was the motivation I needed to start making music for myself. The goal is that my EP will be released by the end of 2022. This is my first time ever releasing music, so I want to make sure I’m putting together a project that has been thoroughly thought out, and clearly expresses who I am as an artist to the audience. There is so much work that goes into releasing music that listeners don’t always think about. From the album cover art, your Spotify artist profile page, music videos, roll out plans … all of it is vital to a successful release, so I’m focusing on getting every piece of it cohesive so the project makes sense as a whole. Like I said before, I want the audience to get a clear idea of who Mxlane truly is. 813 Mgmt., who is managing the release, is focused on getting all these moving parts completed before we set that
